Hey Team,
First off, let me say I’ve been immensely blessed to read your bios and stories. This seems like such a great group, and I cannot wait to get to know you guys more in the swampy Georgia weather in a couple of weeks. Prepare to get wrecked in a good way!
A little about me: My name is Curt Devine, and I’m a 24-year-old freelance writer, tutor and travel-addict currently living in West Palm Beach, FL. I’m passionate about great story telling, music, culture and I also very much like coffee and red wine (can I say that on a missions blog?).
More than all of these things, however, I am a follower of Jesus. Although I did not grow up in the church, I came to know Christ at the age of 17 after praying for an hour and a half on the tile floor of my bedroom. Ever since, I’ve walked through mountains and valleys with the Lord, sometimes wavering in my faith and sometimes feeling like I'm walking in the physical presence of God. I certainly don’t have Christ completely figured out, but I do know that He rose from the dead, lives today and continues to redeem lives throughout the world.
After graduating from the University of Florida in 2010 (where I was roommates with Chris Glidden’s older brother Matt), I decided to embark on an incredible, life-changing journey called the World Race. Of course there is no simple way to summarize this experience, but I can say that the Book of Acts came to life and I found myself preaching, casting out demons, caring for the poor, spending time with prostitutes, laying hands on the terminally ill and worshipping like I never had before. I also used these experiences to write a number of magazine articles to shed light on the injustices we encountered.
Now, I’m preparing to study international media at American University for graduate school in the fall. I’m pursuing a career of giving a voice to the voiceless and sharing the stories that God is writing throughout the world, often in the darkest places.
I’m overjoyed to have the opportunity to co-lead the Nica Passport trip! I know God is going to do some very unexpected things in us and through us, and I can’t wait to dream big with you guys on how we can be the physical hands and feet of Christ this summer.
See you in a couple weeks!
